Last week, 4 new researchers officially took over as members of the Madeira Chemistry Research Center (CQM). On Monday, September 21, within the scope of the “7th CQM Annual Meeting”, held at the Auditorium of the Rectory of the University of Madeira, the following members took office: Vanessa Santos (junior researcher), an undergraduate student in Biochemistry, Dominika Houdová (junior researcher), master's student in Applied Biochemistry - both students at the University of Madeira - and Fátima Moreira (junior researcher), master's student in Molecular Genetics and Biomedicine at the Universidade Nova de Lisboa. After the welcome speech the CQM Coordinator, Prof. João Rodrigues, made to known some of the most important rules of the CQM Regulation and proceeded with the signature of the terms of office. On Friday, at the CQM headquarters, took over the newest reinforcement of the Center's research team, the Senior Investigator, Jaison Jeevanandam, Ph.D. in Nanotechnology by the University of Curtin, Malaysia, Master in Nanoscience and Nanotechnology from the University of Madras, India, and an MBA in Human Resource Management from Pondicherry University-Loyola College, Chennai, India. After taking office the new member participated in an information session about CQM, followed by a visit to the different laboratories and spaces where the ongoing research projects at the CQM are taking place. This researcher was hired in March this year, under the CQM+ operation (Ref: M1420-01-0145-FEDER-000005), but due to the COVID-19 pandemic, he only arrived in the Region in early September, since then fulfilling a period of voluntary quarantine in the respective accommodation.
CQM is a National Research Center hosted by the University of Madeira, supported by FCT – Fundação para a Ciência e Tecnologia and ARDITI – Agência Regional para o Desenvolvimento da Investigação, Tecnologia e Inovação.
