CQM is part of the National Commitee for the Celebration of the International Year of the Periodic Table (IYPT) of the Chemical Elements which will be celebrated throughout 2019 as declared by the United Nations.
In Madeira Island, just like throughout Portugal, there will be several events to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the discovery of the Periodic System by Dmitri Mendeleiev which is considered as one of mankind's most important scientific achievements.
The Periodic Table is a tool that allows the prediction of the properties of mater and that is used not just in Chemistry but also in Biology and Physics. The IYPT is an opportunity to reflect on the importance of Chemistry, the role that the scientists that built it played, including female scientists, and the importance of science for sustainable development.
